What is the difference between a KNOLL centrifugal pump and a rotary pump?

2023-09-22 17:40:05

Centrifugal pump:
Centrifugal pumps differ from rotary pumps in that they rely on kinetic energy rather than mechanical devices to move the liquid. The liquid enters the pump at the center of the rotating impeller and gains energy as it moves toward the outside diameter of the impeller.

The liquid is forced out of the pump by the energy obtained from the rotating impeller.

Centrifugal pumps can transport large amounts of liquid, but as the pressure and/or viscosity increase, the efficiency and flow rate can rapidly decrease.

Rotary pump:

The rotary pump operates in a circular motion, and the pump shaft drains a certain amount of liquid each turn. Typically, this is done by pumping elements (e.g., gears, flanges, blades, screws) in a way that expands the volume to allow liquid to move into the pump. These volumes are then accommodated by the pump geometry until the pumping element moves in a way that reduces the volume and forces the fluid out of the pump. The flow from the rotating PD pump is relatively unaffected by differential pressure and is smooth and continuous. The rotary PD pump has a very tight internal clearance that minimizes the amount of fluid that slides from the pump's discharge side back to the suction side. Because of this, they are very efficient. These pumps are suitable for all viscosity, especially high viscosity.
