How much torque is required for OTT-JAKOB rotary joint installation?

2023-09-21 11:31:27

Rotary pressure jointThat is, joints that increase the sealing force as the pressure increases, usually connected to the journal of the rotating equipment using a quick connection "Q" joint flange. This allows the swivel to be quickly removed from the journal and the swivel's internal components to be repaired. When a customer asks, "How much torque does it take to install a rotary pressure joint?" They specifically ask for torque specifications to tighten the flange nut that connects the "Q" joint flange to the journal flange. The first part of my answer is that there is no torque specification.

There is no torque specification because threaded joints and journal flange bolt styles vary greatly, which has a huge impact on torque requirements. In addition, the "Q" joint flange can be made of cast iron, steel, casting or a bar. These different materials affect the bending of the flange and thus the required torque.

"How much torque is required to install the rotary pressure joint?" Measure the spacing between the "Q" joint flange and the journal flange. The flange nuts should be tightened until there is a gap of 1/8 "to 3/16" (3 to 5 mm) between the flanges. The clearance should be uniform throughout the circumference of the flange. Proper spacing ensures the split wedges and copper washers are properly loaded to seal the joint to the journal, and even clearance ensures the swivel joint is properly aligned.
