一、Centrifugal pumpThe making of
When choosing a material for a centrifugal pump, a number of factors need to be considered. These are strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, casting and machining properties, repair and weldability, and cost.
2. Materials used in centrifugal pumps
Cast iron, cast steel, stainless steel, bronze, brass, carbon structural steel composites, alloy steel and non-metallic materials are some of the materials used in the manufacture of centrifugal pumps.
Cast iron - this is the most commonly used material for centrifugal pumps. It provides high tensile strength and wear resistance associated with high pressure ratings. It's also durable.
Stainless steel - Austenitic stainless steel is the most common stainless steel used in the manufacture of pumps. Stainless steel is commonly used in chemical pumps because it resists corrosion. Its tensile strength is very high.
Cast steel - This material is suitable for high pressure working conditions and has good mechanical properties. Although compared to other types of stainless steel used in corrosive and other chemical applications, its corrosion resistance is not as good as other types of stainless steel.
Carbon structural steel - this material is widely used as a pump shaft material that does not require corrosion.
Alloy steel - it is commonly used as a material for pump shafts to achieve high strength.
Non-metallic material - This material is mainly used in pumps for sealing purposes, such as teflon, rubber, nitrile rubber and fluorine. Polytetrafluoroethylene has excellent resistance to high temperature and corrosion. Used for static seal of mechanical seal and chemical pump gasket. Almost all chemical media up to 250°C are recommended.
• Bronze - can be used in pump body. It helps seal the pump body. For larger centrifugal pumps, tin bronze is used as the pump body material. Although nickel-aluminum bronze is corrosion-resistant and has the best mechanical properties, it is expensive and has poor performance.
Composite material - In order to improve the chemical resistance of the pump, a lining can be installed in the volute. The material used for the lining can be rubber. Graphite monolithic ceramics and pumps are used for particularly corrosive liquids such as hydrofluoric acid used in the pulp and paper industry and the metal finishing industry. Composite materials are also used to make pump bodies.
Third, the selection of material standards
Factors to consider when choosing a centrifugal pump material include:
Chemical compatibility - Pump parts that come into contact with the pumping medium can be made of chemically compatible materials that will not be contaminated or cause excessive corrosion or contamination. When dealing with aggressive media, it is recommended to consult a metallurgist to select the appropriate metal.
• Explosion-proof - non-sparking materials are required for operation in media or environments with the ability to catch fire or explode.
• Hygiene - Pumps in the food and beverage industry require high-density sealed or unsealed pumps that are easy to disinfect and clean.
Wear - Pumps that handle abrasives usually require materials with good wear resistance. Chemical resistance and hard surface materials are often incompatible. The housing and base materials shall be of appropriate strength and shall also be able to withstand operating conditions and environments.
