Sherwin Liquid Penetration Testing (PT) is used to detect surface defects in all non-porous materials. This technique can reveal defects through capillary action of liquid penetrant. Its combined action with the developer exposes the defect, which is then easily seen with the naked eye.
Two main operating methods are used: color contrast and fluorescence. Fluorescence is the most sensitive.
This test method is applicable to all non-porous materials, mainly non-ferromagnetic materials:
• Austenitic stainless steel (304, 308, 309, 316, 321, 347, etc.)
• Non-ferrous alloys (aluminum, titanium, magnesium, copper, bronze, brass, etc.)
• Ceramics and plastics
Magnetic particle inspection (MT) and Liquid penetration inspection (PT) are fast, reliable, safe and portable. Their use is in no case limited by the shape, size or quality of the part to be inspected.
Typical applications for conducting MT and/or PT tests:
• Molded and forged parts (cracks, cracks, grinding, pores, etc.)
• Laminating, stretching and extrusion products (laminating, grinding, cracking, etc.)
• Heat treated parts (cracks)
• Welded parts (cracked, unfused, impermeable, porosity, etc.)
• Parts in use (fatigue cracks)
• Inspection of machined or ground parts (cracks)
The above content describes the problems of the liquid penetration test method of Sherwin Sherwin penetrant.
